Brand Protection Analysis Added To HosterStats Domain Search
The domain search facility on HosterStats.com now has a brand protection analysis of domain names. It shows how a domain name is registered across the gTLDs and also the hoster of the the domain in other gTLDs. Thus if the domain name Microsoft.com was being checked, the results page will show in which gTLDs the term “Microsoft” is registered. Down the results page, the hosters for the term “Microsoft” in the other TLDs is shown. Naturally the hoster is Microsoft’s own MSFT.NET hoster.
For domainers, the problem of accidentally registering a trademark protected brandname is a constant one. One of the more interesting aspects of the HosterStats domain name Brand Protection Analysis is that generic domain names often have different hosters across the gTLDs while brands have the same hosters. The older the brand, the more likely it will be registered in .com .net .org .biz .info .mobi and .asia gTLDs and also in some of the ccTLDs. The more recent brands may focus on .com and some of the newer gTLDs. While it is not a trademark search, it is a potentially useful view of how a domain name term is being used.
