.asia Domain Name Count Count Falls

The .asia stld has had a hard time competing with the major ccTLDs (.cn .au .jp .kr .in) in the Asia region and it is currently experiencing an echo of its Landrush anniversary Junk Dump phase. The domain name count for .asia sTLD on 01 May 2010 was 207,586. As of this morning (04 May 2010), the .asia domain name count was 201,284. It could go through the 200K barrier in the next few weeks if the current rate of deletions is maintained. This trend is not as bad as the initial dotAsia Landrush anniversary drop and it is always a feature of recently launched TLDs. The .asia sTLD may resume its growth by August 2010.
