Over 5.6 Million gTLD domains UK Hosted

The UK is one of the main players in the ccTLD world with the second largest ccTLD in the world. Its ccTLD has over 9 million domains registered and most of them are in the .co.uk subdomain. However that is only the tip of the iceberg for the UK’s domain industry. The latest HosterStats domain survey for the UK shows that the gTLD footprint for the UK is also strong. The numbers are based on hosters that have been identified as UK operated and nameservers on IP ranges that are associated with the UK.

Total: 5,675,816

Compared to the total number of .UK domain names (9,194,231), the 5,675,816 gTLD domains is still quite an impressive footprint. However the .UK ccTLD is an open one so it has registrants far beyond the UK. Some non-UK hosters and registrants will use UK registrars and UK hosting and this drives up the UK’s domain footprint.
