While only 616,227 .co domain names are currently tracked, over 1 million domain names have been registered in the ccTLD. Godaddy’s domaincontrol.com is the top hoster with 32.69% of the detected .co domain names. Godaddy has been the flagship registrar for the ccTLD and its market position in .co ccTLD is replicated in the gTLDs.

The dominance of Godaddy in the repurposed .co ccTLD is an important point for any new gTLD intending to target the North American market. Simply put: if you are targeting North America then Godaddy has to be onboard as one of the registrars.
