Most XYZ Websites Hosted in Virgin Islands
HosterStats.com ran a preliminary web survey of active new gTLDs and one of the unusual findings was that 85% of .XYZ websites are hosted in the Virgin Islands (UK). The Geographical distributions for these new gTLDs have now been published along with a map showing which countries host new gTLD websites. Some new gTLDs such as .CLUB and .EMAIL show a wider geographical spread of websites. Interestingly, .BERLIN is very much like a ccTLD with the core of its websites focused on one country, Germany.
Network Solutions has been promoting .XYZ new gTLD with opt-out free domain names. Approximately 85% of .XYZ websites are hosted in the Virgin Islands (UK). These are PPC parked domains. While the new gTLD is still in its Landrush phase, this padding is of the zonefile with freebies has some other effects. Comparing the number of distinct IPs in a new gTLD against the number of websites is a fast and very crude way of measuring development in a TLD. The more IPs, the more dedicated servers and websites. The concentration of websites on particular IPs is highly visible in .XYZ.

113,280 XYZ websites were hosted on just 1,191 IP addresses. The other new gTLDs seem to be more diverse and have higher numbers of IP addresses hosting their websites.
