June 20, 2014
By John McCormac

Bing Wrong About Large Website Sitemaps

June 11, 2014
By John McCormac

Bing (Microsoft’s Search Engine) is wrong about large website sitemaps going by its latest blogpost. It uses all the right buzzwords and even a Social Science number for emphasis but it misses one fundamental thing with large websites and their sitemaps – the importance of the lastmod element. The main problem with extra-large sitemaps is...

Unnatural Links – has Google got it backwards?

June 12, 2013
By John McCormac

I’ve been working on a historical links graph and database for the Irish webscape for the last few years. One thing that has become increasingly apparent is that the ordinary (Google) approach to unnatural links may have got it backwards. In engineering, you solve a problem not its effects. Google seems to be trying...

By John McCormac

Global totals for gTLDs are great but they just don’t give the kind of country level view that most web hosters and registries need. Each country level market is typically based on a combination of domain names. The most important is generally the local ccTLD. But .COM TLD also occupies a major segment of...
