HosterStats.com: .org Domain Name Registrations 2004-2011
The graph below shows the pattern of domain name registrations in the .org TLD over the period 2004 to 2011. From 2005 to 2007, there was massive domain tasting in the .org TLD and this led to large variations in the numbers of new, deleted and transferred domains each month. Registrars such as Snapnames and Pool were effectively registering most of each day's .org drops and were auctioning off these domains. In 2007, the .org registry moved against this domain tasting and the sharp declines in the erratic new and deleted domains patterns shows how effective this move was. It took ICANN another year before dealt with the problem of domain tasting in .com and .net TLDs.
The graph shows the new domain registration, deleted domain names, transferred domain names counts at the start of each month from January 2004 to the present.
